Welcome to TranquilTrails.ca!
Western Canada has some of the greatest hiking trails in the world. Banff National Park and Jasper National Park in the Canadian Rockies are world renowned for their unparalleled beauty and untouched wilderness. If you ever tire of these, Kootenay National Park, Yoho National Park, Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park, Mount Robson Provincial Park and Kananaskis Country adjoin these parks and provide options for extended hikes. I am fortunate enough to live in Calgary where these world class wilderness areas are on my doorstep.
Slightly further away from Calgary is the Churchill River System in Northern Saskatchewan with some of the finest extended canoe routes in North America.. I continue to explore this area as often as I can.
Wilderness adventure would not be complete without a wildlife encounter or two. Wildlife encounters can make or break a trip. To the ill prepared, a Red Squirrel can be the downfall of an otherwise successful trip. For the well prepared, a Grizzly Bear encounter can turn an otherwise uneventful trip into an unforgettable one.
The focus of this website is to share photographs of the adventures I have had hiking in the Canadian Rockies and canoeing in the wilds of the Churchill River along with some of the wildlife I have encountered along the way. These photographs can be viewed in the "Gallery" section of the website. If you are interested in purchasing any of the photographs displayed on the website please see the "Ordering" section using the link at the top of the page for further information.
Over the years, I have found a number of websites that contain information that is useful for planning hikes in the Canadian Rockies and for planning other wilderness adventures. I have provided links to some of these websites on the "Links" page for your reference. If you come across any other good resources please let me know and I will consider adding them to the "Links" page for others to enjoy.
Finally, the "About" section contains some information about myself and some of the other services that I offer.
If you would like to receive a periodic newsletter about updates to the website please subscribe to the TranquilTrails Newsletter by entering your e-mail address in the form below. The newsletter will include a short description of any new photograph galleries added.

What's New?
January 1, 2010. Over the past decade the website has gone through a few major changes.
With this update I have decided to focus the website on my photography and remove the trail descriptions and stories that went along with them. I have found that there are so many excellent websites and books that provide phenomenal descriptions that it was not worth the effort to even try and duplicate their excellent work. I have provided links to some of these fine websites on the "Links" page for your reference. If you come across any other good resources please let me know and I will consider adding them to the "Links" page for others to enjoy.
