Canoeing in Banff and Jasper 2011 Photos from a couple canoe trips in Banff and Jasper National Parks. We started with a leisurely paddle on Lake Louise and Moraine Lake followed with a two-day trip on the Bow River from Lake Louise to Banff, a two-day trip on the Athabasca River from Jasper to Hinton and a final run of the Bow from Lake Louise to Banff in a single day. Along the trip we were accompanied by Osprey, Bald and Golden Eagles, Elk and swimming Black Bears. I managed to catch a couple of their visits on camera. |

Mount Assiniboine 2010 What a difference a year makes. Prior to our arrival Mount Assiniboine was coated with a fresh coat of snow. There was still snow falling on our arrival and well into the first day. Luckily, the visibility went from less than a km to "not a cloud in the sky" overnight. While the views of the freshly coated mountains was unsurpassed, the fishing was non-existent and we would have caught as many fish in our bathtub. After an easy 27 km one-day hike in, a twisted knee forced us to take a helicopter out. Regardless, it was another great trip to Assiniboine. |

Calgary Stampede Showband - MACBDA Tour (link will open in a new window) I toured with the Calgary Stampede Showband as a photographer and chaperone this summer. The showband won six consecutive marching band competitions in the Mid America Competing Band Directors' Association (MACBDA) international competition before having to return to Calgary to prepare for the Stampede. This website was set up to share photographs of the band during their tour. |

Fish Creek 2010 - Last Updated May 30, 2010 Fish Creek Provincial Park is a short walk from my house and unfortunately I never seem to be able to visit nearly often as I would like. The park has been a source for many of my bird, muskrat and other assorted wildlife photos . Here is a short collection of photos I have taken in the park this year. I will post additional photos and update the "Last Updated" date whenever I encounter worthy subjects. The latest additions feature blackbirds and a muskrat. |

Mount Assiniboine 2009 This marks my fifth trip to Mount Assiniboine. My first overnight hike in the Rockies was to Mount Assiniboine in 1985 and I have been hiking back whenever my schedule permits and another trail isn't begging me to give it a try. On this trip I allowed a little extra time to try the fishing and was rewarded for my efforts. This trip featured great weather, great fishing, great hiking and as always spectacular scenery. This gallery features some great photos of reflections of Mount Assiniboine in Lake Magog, a loon, and a grouse that was nice enough to pose for me on the hike in. |

Mount Robson 2009 This hike is another classic and well worth visiting over and over. On this trip I was accompanied by my 16 year old daughter (her second hike to Mount Robson and a veritable warrior of multi-day treks since the age of 8) and my mother (her first real multi-day hike ever!). We were blessed with fine weather and travelling companions on the hike. This gallery features some great photos of Robson without its head in the clouds, a nice reflection, Berg Lake Cave, Toboggan Falls, Robson Glacier and the Ice Caves, and a little marmot that just couldn`t say no to another photo. |

Calgary Stampede 2009 The Calgary Stampede comes to Calgary every year. This is normally my queue to pack my backpack and get out of town. This year my son was in the Calgary Stampede Showband so I stuck around to enjoy some of the festivities. This photo album features some photos of the Calgary Stampede Parade, Recycled Percussion, and the Calgary Stampede Showband. Most of the photos are of the Calgary Stampede Showband. If your son or daughter is featured in any of the photos in this gallery please send me an e-mail with the name of the photo and I would be happy to e-mail you a copy of the image without the copyright watermark. |

Other Digital I have been shooting with a digital camera since 2004. This gallery contains some of my favourite photographs that didn`t have enough photographs of the trip / subject area to warrant a separate gallery of its own. This gallery features wildlife (Moose, Muskrat, Pika, Hoary Marmot, Golden Mantled Ground Squirrel, Rabbit, Bighorn Sheep, Columbia Ground Squirrel, Bat, Badger, Coyote, Muskrat, Tundra Swans, Mallard, Great Horned Owl, Flycatcher, Red-Winged Blackbird, Merganser, Flicker, Pileated Woodpecker, Chickadee, Spider, Bee), and landscapes (Lake O'Hara, Mystic Pass, Nigel Pass, Angel Glacier, Athabasca Glacier). |

Skoki 2007 The Skoki region has marked the beginning or end of many of my multi-day hikes and is a worthy destination on its own. On this trip with my son Skoki was the destination. Since I had visited the area several times in the past my primary objective of this trip was to scramble to the top of Brachiopod Mountain and Fossil Mountain. This short gallery features photos taken on these scrambles. |

Paull River 2007 This wilderness canoe trip is fantastic and one I repeat every year I can. I have tried other canoe routes but always come back to this one. The trip starts with a charter float plane trip from Missinipe to Paull Lake. The next week is spent canoeing down the Paull River and through the Churchill River System back to Missinipe. The trip is an excellent combination of rapids, lakes (large and small) and has excellent fishing throughout. The only down side to the trip is that it is so much fun that I often forget that I have my camera with me and don't take near enough photographs. Luckily there are photos from other trips in the Paull River 2006 and Photos from Negatives galleries. This gallery features photos of Dragonfly nymphs emerging, a Cecropia moth, and a Beaver looking for an easy meal. |

Paull River 2006 Another short gallery of photographs taken on a Paull River canoe trip. This was my son's first canoe trip on the Paull River and it was quite an adventure. The last two days of the trip were spent canoeing through forest fires. When I say through forest fires I mean it. The trees were actually on fire and the smoke was so thick on the final day of canoeing that we had to rely on a GPS for navigation since visibility was near zero at times. When we returned to Missinipe we were greeted to sprinklers raining down on the vehicles in the parking lot to keep them from catching fire and road closures that prevented us from leaving town. This gallery features photos of my son canoeing, a friend kayaking (technically I think you would call it swimming since he isn't in the kayak), and some Pelicans. |

Mystic Badger 2005 This extended backcountry hike starts near Johnson Canyon continues to Mystic Pass and on to Flints Park, Badger Pass, Pulsatilla Pass and Skoki. This trip has some great scenery and a real sense of wilderness and solitude. The weather on this trip was poor and at one campground I recall asking my son which lake he would like to set up camp in. The poor weather for the first six days is what created the fantastic conditions we had on the final day and makes the photo of Brachiopod Mountain and its reflection on Baker Lake (see thumb to left) all the more memorable. This gallery features photos of Mystic Pass, Bighorn Sheep in Mystic Pass, Badger Pass, a Hoary Marmot, and a shy Moose. |

Mount Robson 2004 I convinced both of my children to accompany me on this hike to Mount Robson. My daughter can be seen catching a nap on some cliffs overlook Berg Lake and Robson Glacier in the thumb to the left. My children were 10 and 11 at the time of this trip and I have seen much younger children on the trail. This trip is a great one to introduce your children to the backcountry. This gallery features photos of Kinney Lake, White Falls, Emperor Falls, Berg Lake, Mount Robson, Toboggan Falls and Berg Glacier. |

Photos from Negatives Before 2004 I used a film camera. This gallery contains some of my favourite photos taken on film. I have had some, but not all, of the negatives professionally scanned. Photos from canoe trips on the Paull River and other Saskatchewan Rivers as well as hikes to Garibaldi, Hector Lake, Assiniboine, Lake Minnewanka, Aylmer Pass, Floe Lake and other locations too numerous to mention are included. Wildlife photos of Mountain Goats, Grizzly Bear, Black Bear, Caribou, BIghorn Sheep, Elk, Pika, Marmot, Great Blue Heron, Great Horned Owl, Bald Eagle, Grouse Chicks, Seagull Eggs and Chicks, Mute Swan, Osprey, Praying Mantis, and more are also included. |

Badger Pass 1986 While Mount Assiniboine might have been my first overnight backcountry hike this hike starting on the Cascade Fire Road through Badger Pass to Skoki was the hike that got me hooked on hiking. The weather on the trip was miserable, even when it was nice. The first two days were spent in the rain, the third day in a blizzard with winds so strong that we were constantly being knocked off of our feet and the remainder of the trip it was nothing but blue sky, melting snow, and trying to figure out which of the rivers cascading down the mountain was the trail we were supposed to follow And I would do it all again. This gallery features photos of Snow, Badger Pass, Avalanche, Porcupine and Levetating Food. |
